Sing the North Festival Concert: A Baroque Celebration
August 8 @ 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm
$11.98 – $38.61Choral legend Howard Dyck leads the 100-voice Sing the North Festival Chorus & Orchestra in three great works by Handel: the energetic and youthful Dixit Dominus, the moving Utrecht Jubilate Deo and the famous Coronation Anthem, Zadok the Priest, heard round the world as the pinnacle musical celebration at the crowning of King Charles II.
Soloists include the spellbinding Polish-Canadian soprano, Karoline Podolak, the wonderful baroque specialist soprano Janelle Lucyk, countertenor and exclusive Sony recording artist Daniel Taylor, and the powerful Canadian bass, Alexander Dobson. Joining them are two favourite local tenors Felix Butterfield and Adam Dyjach.
In addition to the masterworks by Handel, the concert will feature early Baroque music by Italian composer Barbara Strozzi and contemporary works by this year’s resident composer, Vancouver-based Katerina Gimon. Katerina’s music is innovative and timeless, invoking themes from Hildegard of Bingen, sounds of the natural world, and the pulse of ancient rhythms.
