J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is pure baroque joy, featuring a large choir, soloists and orchestra.
Composed for the 12 feast days of Christmas in 1734/35, Bach’s delightful work weaves the Nativity story through a series of cantatas. The Victoria Philharmonic Choir, conducted by Peter Butterfield and joined by several soloists and a baroque-style orchestra, will present four of the six cantatas in the series, which tell of the Christ child’s birth, the adoration of the shepherds and the the arrival of Three Kings bearing gifts.
Doors at First Met will open by 7 pm; festival seating.
