Monteverdi 1610 Vespers
June 8 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
$20 – $30The Victoria Philharmonic Choir presents this rarely-performed masterwork of the late Renaissance/early Baroque period – the largest and most complex choral work before J.S. Bach’s great oratorios. Peter Butterfield conducts the multi-part choir, ten soloists, and an orchestra that includes period specialist players on sackbuts, cornetti and lutes. In the Vespers, Claudio Monteverdi lays the groundwork for the next 400 years of western music, especially the development of opera. The resonant acoustic of St. Andrew’s (Catholic) Cathedral is the closest thing we have to San Marco Basilica in Venice! Festival seating; doors open by 7.30 pm.
