SUMMARY:Fermata: Charcoal drawings by Liz Charsley
DESCRIPTION:Gallery hours Tuesday to Sunday\, 11 am to 5 pm\nOpening reception Tuesday\, March 31\, 5-8 pm \nFermata is a musical term meaning a pause of unspecified length. For Liz\, who sings with the choir Ensemble Laude\, a walk in the woods or along a beach can deliver a visual fermata\, caused by light glancing through the trees or bouncing off the water. Her charcoal drawings\, many of them rich in detail\, capture these moments\, preserving them in the dreamy stillness of soft monochrome. \nLiz studied art and theatre at UVIc before moving to London\, UK\, where she worked as a theatrical propmaker for many years. The long hours and drafty workshops took their toll\, eventually\, and Liz went back to her art practice and did an MA in Drawing at Camberwell College of Art. Liz joined a burgeoning art group\, South London Women Artists\, exhibiting with them for 10 years\, and was appointed Artist in Residence at Dulwich Picture Gallery in south London for their Painting Canada exhibition. \nMoving back to Canada in 2020\, spending the covid years in Calgary\, then back to her original home of Victoria\, Liz rekindled her joy of the wild outdoors in the forests and wild coastlines near the city\, from which she draws inspiration for her work.

SUMMARY:Burnout Recovery Through Art: A Saturday Morning Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A gentle\, hands-on workshop using creative expression to explore burnout and build strategies for recovery. \nBurnout often builds slowly\, until it’s hard to remember what it felt like before. If you’ve been feeling depleted\, disconnected\, or like you’re just going through the motions\, you’re not alone\, and you’re not broken. You might just need a different way in.\nThis 90-minute workshop uses guided art-making to help you explore where burnout is showing up in your life. No art experience is needed. The creative process is the tool\, not the goal. \nWhat we’ll do together: \n– A grounding exercise to arrive and settle in\n– Guided creative exercises exploring your relationship with stress and depletion\n– Reflection and gentle group sharing (only what feels comfortable)\n– Building a personal recovery map\, something concrete you can take with you \nThis workshop may be a good fit if you’re:\n– Feeling emotionally or physically exhausted from work or caregiving\n– Noticing that your usual coping strategies aren’t working the way they used to\n– Curious about how creativity may benefit your mental health\n– Looking for a supported space to pause and check in with yourself \nFacilitated by Hanna Kaye Verhagen\, CCC\, MC\, DVATI\, BA\, Art Therapist & Certified Canadian Counsellor. Learn more at hannakaye.com.\n? After purchase Hanna Kaye Art Therapy & Counselling will follow up via JaneApp with event reminder & consent form
