SUMMARY:آبِ رواں Aab-e-Ravaan: Language Like Water
DESCRIPTION:May 2 to August 1\, 2026 \nLegacy Downtown | 630 Yates St.\nLekwungen Territory \nآبِ رواں Aab-e-Ravaan: Language Like Water explores the artistic practice of Farheen Haq\, an interdisciplinary artist born into an immigrant family with roots in Bihar\, India\, and Karachi\, Pakistan\, she now lives and works on lək̓ʷəŋən territory (Victoria\, BC). Through her work\, Haq returns to her parents’ experience and ancestral lands\, drawing on the Urdu poetry of Mirza Ghalib (1797–1869) as a source of connection\, memory\, and reflection. \nIn this exhibition\, Haq looks to water as a guide in relationship building and to understand the flows of migration; as well as tracing the fluidity of language through poetry. Her work moves like a ghazal\, where every droplet carries the meaning of reconnection. In آبِ رواں Aab-e-Ravaan\, Urdu becomes a living current\, flowing and shaping relationships. Like water\, it holds memory and connects seemingly distant lands and waters to the Salish Sea\, offering a space where identity remains in motion\, always shifting and creating new meanings. \nCurated by Anahita Ranjbar. \nThe opening celebration will take place on May 2\, 2026\, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. \n  \nImage: Farheen Haq\, Aankh Band ke Dekho (Close Your Eyes and See)\, 2022. SUMMARY:Conversations In Colour
DESCRIPTION:Experience the fusion of colour\, form\, and words in Margo cooper’s abstract figurative paintings.\nThe abstract figurative paintings in this new exhibition by Margo Cooper encourage individual interpretation and emotional response\, with titles that suggest themes without prescribing meaning. The show’s title\, Conversations In Colour\, reflects both the vivid palette and an invitation to viewers to converse with the art\, each other\, and members of the Gage Gallery’s 21 artist collective. To deepen this engagement\, a writing area encourages visitors to share their reflections either publicly or privately. \nGallery Hours Tuesday to Sunday\, 11 am to 5 pm \nOpening Reception Thursday\, June 4\, 6-8 pm \nInspired Writing Night Tuesday\, June 16\,  7-9 pm \nMargo firmly believes in the enriching power of art and wants everyone to have a chance to experience the transformative effects of creativity. She now paints full time in her upstairs studio at the Gage Second Story and guests are always welcome. Book ahead at margocooper@shaw.ca or take a chance and ask if she’s in when you’re visiting the gallery.
