SUMMARY:Second Hand Shop Around
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to downtown Victoria’s biggest second-hand shopping event. Second Hand Shop Around runs from November 1st to December 13th and there are two ways to participate! To get started\, pick up a punch card from one of the participating locations. \nShop & Save:\nSpend $10.00 CAD or more at a participating location to receive a punched orange star. Punch all 5 orange stars and unlock a 10% discount for the remainder of the event. \n\nOnly one orange star may be punched per visit.\nOnce you have punched all 5 orange stars\, show your punch card to staff at participating locations to unlock a 10% discount on purchases until December 13th.\n\nExplore & Win:\nVisit 10 participating locations to be entered to win a prize pack. \n\nOnly one blue star may be punched per business for the duration of the event.\nOnce you have punched 10 blue stars\, follow @secondhandvictoria on Instagram and send a picture of your completed punch card with contact info filled out in pen. Valid entries will be entered to win a prize basket.\n\n  \nParticipating Businesses \nUse this map to find all the businesses participating in the Second Hand Shop Around! SUMMARY:Victoria Choral Society presents RESILIENCE: Works for Choir and Organ
DESCRIPTION:The 150 voices of the Victoria Choral Society\, led by Artistic Director Brian Wismath\, join forces with acclaimed organist\, Mark McDonald to present RESILIENCE: Works for Choir and Organ. This moving 80-minute concert honouring the enduring power of choral and organ music will take place at Christ Church Cathedral at 2:30 pm on Saturday\, November 8\, 2025. VCS Choral Scholars will be featured as soloists throughout the program. \nTickets are $40 (suggested price) or Pay What You Wish and are available online at victoriachoralsociety.ca or at the door. Advance purchase is strongly recommended. \nFeaturing repertoire that spans over three centuries\, RESILIENCE explores the timeless beauty and strength of the choral-organ tradition. Audiences will hear iconic masterworks including Jesu\, Joy of Man’s Desiring by Johann Sebastian Bach\, Hear My Prayer by Felix Mendelssohn\, and Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Fauré\, alongside powerful and evocative contemporary works including Magnificat by James MacMillan\, Glorificatio by René Eespere\, I Was Glad by Sir Hubert Parry\, Immortal Bach by Knut Nystedt\, and Dona Nobis Pacem by Pēteris Vasks.\nThis is the Year of the Organ for Christ Church Cathedral’s Hellmuth Wolff organ\, a world class instrument that has been played for more than 20\,000 hours — accompanying over 4\,000 Cathedral services\, 3\,000 rehearsals\, 200 concerts\, and countless hours of practice by Cathedral musicians and distinguished organists from around the world. \nAbout the Victoria Choral Society \nFounded in 1934\, the Victoria Choral Society is a mixed-voice auditioned symphonic choir dedicated to presenting the finest choral music from Baroque to contemporary.
