SUMMARY:Triple Book Launch Event - Featuring Eve Joseph\, Patrick Friesen & M.A.C. Farrant
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a triple book launch featuring three local authors – Eve Joseph\, Patrick Friesen and M.A.C. Farrant! You can enjoy a wonderful night of poetry and profound storytelling\, meet the authors in person\, and get your books signed. Don’t miss this exciting literary event! \n\nIn Eve Joseph’s latest book\, Dismantling\, the poet is occupied with the idea of poetic imagination and how that often elusive thing can transform the mundane into the mysterious. It contains new works of prose poetry\, along with a series of centos – poems build entirely on the lines of other poets. Old voices engage with new ones. Tomas Tranströmer and Ocean Vuong speak about a great unsolved love while Audre Lorde walks with Ahmad Almallah and César Vallejo as the grass bends\, then learns to stand again. Joseph’s poems are about language; how lonely it is until time enters the poem and places it where it is meant to be. \nIn Patrick Friesen’s new book\, Sightings\, the poems move between the visible and invisible\, between the contradictions of human history and the immediacy of a complex present. He examines memory and music\, rivers and personalities\, open to all possibilities and sceptical of wisdom. This book marks a half century of poetry collections by Patrick Friesen! \n\nM.A.C. Farrant’s new memoir\, Seventy-Two Seasons\, is inspired by the Japanese practice of celebrating one feature in nature every five days\, creating seventy-two seasons instead of four\, Farrant embarks on a yearlong mission to focus her attention on the small spellbinding changes around her. With her signature humour\, she skilfully blends observations\, meditations\, literary references\, memoir\, essay-ettes and arcane facts as she explores the natural world. \n\nWhat: Triple Book Launch with Eve Joseph\, Patrick Friesen\, and M.A.C. Farrant \nWhen: Tuesday\, April 7th from 7:00-8:30pm (doors at 6:30) \nWhere: Munro’s Books – 1108 Government St \nHow: This event is free to attend

SUMMARY:Triple Book Launch Event - Featuring Bill Gaston\, Angie Ellis & Terence Young
DESCRIPTION:Come join us as we celebrate BC authors Bill Gaston\, Angie Ellis\, and Terence Young\, and their latest book releases! You will have a chance to hear them read and present their works\, and have your copies signed in person. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity! \n\nIn Bill Gaston’s travel memoir\, Spying on America\, he recounts the time he took the Victoria–Port Angeles ferry with his two sons and travelled for eleven days to Tabor\, Iowa – the town founded by his great\, great\, great-grandparents at the westernmost hub of the Underground Railroad. Their trip to Tabor and back takes them up and down and across a swathe of rural red states. Motivated equally by a curiosity to find out what really makes Americans tick and the motto ya gotta stop\, the Gastons explore the American west\, navigate unmapped dirt roads\, eat too many French fries\, overnight in clapped-out motels\, visit a Buddhist mountain monastery\, marvel at spectacular landforms\, and enjoy unlikely conversations with real Americans. Both a sideways glance at contemporary American culture and a mordant yet tender account of the true meaning of ancestry\, Spying on America is an unpredictably insightful exploration of family\, Canada’s neighbour\, and the “American bald ego.” \n\nAngie Ellis’ debut novel\, A Snake and a Feathered Bird\, is set on Vancouver Island in 1875. Three-year-old Ben comes to live with Agda and her volatile husband James in their small wilderness cabin. Entranced by the lushly overarching rainforest\, he helps his loving adoptive mere in the garden\, learns his letters at the kitchen table and wonders what it would be like to go to school. When James takes Ben\, age nine\, on a whisky run\, the boy is plunged into the rough world of a ramshackle coastal city. Left alone in a canoe he can barely paddle\, he is saved from drowning by a man who is later found dead in the same sea. The frightened boy waits for James to reappear while in the care of James’s sweet but listless niece Lily. When James and Ben return to the cabin\, they find Agda injured and limping badly. In a few days\, Agda is dead. And grieving Ben suspects James of being involved in both sudden deaths. \n\nAnd finally\, Terence Young’s collection of short stories\, Give Us This Day\, explores the weight of the past through a kaleidoscope of voices and styles. From retired grandparents thrust into unexpected childcare parenthood to young labourers adrift in mines and road crews\, from teachers struggling to find meaning in their classrooms to couples at a crossroads\, these stories capture the quiet reckonings of everyday existence. Whether intimate or expansive\, meditative or urgent\, each story reveals how missteps and circumstances shape identity\, and how\, for many\, the past is never truly left behind. Give Us This Day is a profound meditation on regret\, resilience\, and the fragile beauty of human connection. \n\nWhat: Triple Book Launch with Bill Gaston\, Angie Ellis\, & Terence Young \nWhen: Tuesday\, April 14th from 7:00-8:30pm (doors at 6:30) \nWhere: Munro’s Books – 1108 Government St \nHow: Free to attend

SUMMARY:Book Signing with Daniel Janke
DESCRIPTION:Come to our book signing with Daniel Janke – author\, composer and film maker\, who will be joining us here from the Yukon Territory! \n\nHis literary debut\, The Book of Heroes: Stories\, is a witty and deeply reflective collection where ordinary lives become the stage for extraordinary acts of grace and resilience. These are stories of travellers and observers. From the serene and starkly beautiful Yukon to a perilous swim on the beach in The Gambia\, and the sharp musings of a homeless philosopher beneath a city bridge\, “Book of Heroes” charts a world where the everyday clashes with the utterly surreal. Its characters\, caught between the mundane and the fantastic\, are called to act\, sometimes bravely\, sometimes absurdly\, but always with heart. Through sharp wit and deep compassion\, Janke uncovers the complicated truths hiding beneath the surface of ordinary life\, crafting stories imbued with humour\, tenderness\, and insight. \n\nWhat: Book Signing with Daniel Janke \nWhen: Wednesday\, April 15th from 1:00-3:00pm \nWhere: Munro’s Books – 1108 Government St \nHow: This event is free to attend
